Flumes shall be supplied with integral Foam Reinforcing Ribs and Top Stiffener Angles as required by Flume size.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS Palmer Bowlus flumes are designed for use in round pipes flowing partly full and at low velocities. Typical applications are in sewer lines and storm drains. The flume size should be the same as the pipe diameter. Use of small flumes in an oversized channel is not recommended for hydraulic reasons. Standard approach conditions call for uniform straight pipe extending 25 pipe diameters upstream of the flume. The flume should be installed level. The inverts of the flume channel and pipe should be flush. The liners may be set in concrete or bolted to companion structures using the 2-inch flange provided on each end. When pouring concrete around the flume, it is recommended that the flume be braced internally with 2" x 4" wood blocks cut to size. This will prevent the weight of the concrete from causing bulges in the flume walls. Remove the bracing after the concrete has completely set. The use of vibrators is not recommended. As an alternative to wood bracing, the flume may be filled with sand or water as the concrete is being poured.
